What the Academy Teaches
The Spy Academy is the training arm of the Spy Finance network. It does not teach tradecraft in the conventional sense. It teaches the infrastructure of operational thinking — how to structure work, how to file information, how to build systems that persist.
The curriculum covers six domains. Each connects to a live part of the platform.
Module 1 — The Ledger
What it is: The Spy Finance ledger is an append-only, hash-chained record of everything filed since 2010. Over 123,000 entries. Nothing is deleted. Everything is timestamped.
What operatives learn: Why append-only matters. How to read the chain. How to file correctly — source type, domain, structured fields. The difference between a correction and an amendment.
Why it matters: Every system that claims to learn from the past needs a way of storing the past. The ledger is that system. Understanding it is the foundation of everything else.
Module 2 — The Roster
What it is: 277 operatives, contacts, vendors and structural anchors. Each has a key, a role, a type. The roster is the canonical list of who is involved and in what capacity.
What operatives learn: How agents are classified — operative, contact, vendor, structural, closed. How relationships are filed. How the roster connects to the brief and the ledger.
Why it matters: Most organisations fail not because they lack capability but because they lose track of who does what. The roster solves that.
Module 3 — Project Management (PRINCE2)
What it is: PRINCE2 7th Edition — the current standard for structured project delivery. Seven principles, seven practices, seven processes.
What operatives learn: The seven principles (starting with continued business justification). How to manage by stages and exception. How to tailor the method to real-world constraints.

Module 4 — The Brief
What it is: The Me Brief — the operational document generated at session start for the handler (Two). It contains the latest inbound/outbound comms, today's ledger posture, chain tip, session pre-warm, canon, roster and drill-down endpoints.
What operatives learn: How handler context is assembled. What a session open looks like. How the brief changes when the ledger changes.
Why it matters: The brief is how Two starts every session. Understanding its structure is understanding how the system talks to itself.
Module 5 — Radio Operations
What it is: Ten stations, 300+ tracks, 50 drops. Built on Cloudflare R2, served via the r2.dev public URL, player at radio.spymedia.uk.
What operatives learn: How a CDN-hosted audio system works. How stations are defined in a manifest. How the R2 bucket is structured. The difference between a track, a drop and a sting.
Hands-on: The station is live. Listen at the Academy station.
Module 6 — Canon
What it is: The 13 canon rules that govern how the system operates. Canon 1: originals are never altered. Canon 13: One chooses what Two knows and when.
What operatives learn: Why the canon exists. How it prevents the most common failure modes in long-running collaborative systems. How to file a correction without touching the original.
Core principle: The system is trustworthy because it cannot be quietly edited. The audit trail is the product.
Qualification
There is no formal Spy Academy examination — yet. What operatives earn is operational literacy: the ability to work within the system, read the ledger, file correctly, and understand why the architecture is designed the way it is.
The formal qualification track (Academy certification, tiered operative status) is in development.
